The latest report indicates a new wildfire incident in New South Wales, highlighting the persistent threat of wildfires in the region. Over the years, Australia has experienced a 1.03% decline in tree cover, with wildfires being a major contributing factor.
From 2001 to 2025, wildfires have consistently been a leading driver of tree cover loss, accounting for a substantial portion of the overall decline. In 2025 alone, wildfires were responsible for approximately 90% of the total tree cover loss, underscoring their destructive impact on Australia's natural landscape.
