Tanzania has been experiencing a significant increase in wildfire incidents, with the latest alert reported in the Lindi Region on November 6, 2026. Over the past two decades, the country has seen a 16.50% rise in tree cover loss, primarily driven by shifting agriculture, which accounts for approximately 78% of the total loss. Forestry activities and urbanization contribute to 2.70% and 0.60% respectively, while wildfires account for 0.70% of the loss. The net change in tree cover has declined by 11.30%, highlighting the urgent need for sustainable land management practices. As Tanzania continues to grapple with these environmental challenges, the focus remains on balancing development with conservation efforts to protect its rich biodiversity.
