Uzbekistan is witnessing an increase in wildfire incidents, with the latest occurring on October 12, 2026, in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. Over the years, the country has experienced notable changes in its tree cover. From 2001 to 2025, Uzbekistan saw a net gain of 39,654.57 hectares in tree cover, representing a 25.07% increase. However, this gain is overshadowed by the persistent threat of wildfires, which have been a significant driver of tree cover loss. In 2009, wildfires alone accounted for 5.19% of the total tree cover loss. The data highlights the need for continued vigilance and strategies to mitigate the impact of wildfires on Uzbekistan's environment.
