The year 2022 alone saw a tree cover loss of nearly 596,000 hectares, with shifting agriculture again playing a significant role, followed by forestry activities and wildfires. The cumulative effect of these factors has not only reduced the tree cover but also resulted in significant CO2 emissions, with the year 2022 contributing close to 298 million metric tons of CO2 equivalent into the atmosphere.
The persistent loss of tree cover in Bolivia highlights the need for a broader discussion on sustainable land management practices and the importance of preserving natural habitats to mitigate climate change impacts and preserve biodiversity.
