The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) continues to face significant environmental challenges, as evidenced by a recent incident in Haut-Katanga. Over the years, the DRC has experienced a net tree cover loss of approximately 3.55%, with a total loss of 7.59 million hectares. Shifting agriculture remains the primary driver, contributing to over 90% of the tree cover loss. Despite this, there have been efforts to regain tree cover, with a gain of 1.59 million hectares. The recent incident underscores the need for sustainable practices to mitigate environmental degradation and promote ecological balance.
