Burkina Faso has recently experienced an environmental setback with a fire incident reported in the Est Region. This incident adds to the country's ongoing struggle with tree cover loss, which has seen a net decrease of 0.36% over the years. The primary driver of this deforestation has been shifting agriculture, which has been responsible for significant tree cover loss and associated CO2 emissions. Despite efforts to regain tree cover, with a recorded gain of 142,766.50 hectares, the loss has been greater, totaling 151,938.05 hectares. The disturbances in tree cover have also led to a net negative change, further highlighting the environmental challenges faced by the nation. The latest fire incident underscores the need for increased attention to environmental conservation and sustainable land management practices in Burkina Faso.
