Morocco has witnessed a significant increase in wildfire incidents, particularly in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region, with the latest incident recorded on July 28, 2026. Over the years, wildfires have contributed to 15.80% of the total tree cover loss, highlighting a growing environmental challenge. Despite a net gain of 8.10% in tree cover, the persistent threat of wildfires remains a concern. The data reveals that shifting agriculture and forestry are major contributors to tree cover loss, accounting for 45.20% and 34.80% respectively. This ongoing trend underscores the need for comprehensive strategies to mitigate the impact of wildfires and preserve Morocco's natural resources.
